Bicyclist Identified In Fatal Crash With Burbank Police Vehicle

BURBANK, IL — The woman who was fatally struck by a Burbank police vehicle on Labor Day is a retired 66-year-old nurse.

Denise “Dee” Blidy, of Burbank, was riding her bicycle near the area of 77th Street and Central Avenue when she was hit by the police vehicle Monday morning, according to information released by Burbank police.

Deputy Chief William Casey, of the Burbank Police Department, told Patch the accident was being reviewed by the Illinois State Police Integrity Unit. The officer has been placed on duty while the cased is being reviewed. Burbank police will not be releasing any additional information until the conclusion of the review.

She died from her injuries later that day at 9:13 p.m. at Advocate Aurora Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Cook County Medical Examiner reports said.

Blidy was a resident of Burbank and a retired LPN for over 20 years. She was also a Burbank Sting Rays swim coach for many years. Blidy leaves a husband, two sons, a grandchild and two sisters.

Memorial visitation will take place at 10 a.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, at Thornridge Funeral Home, 14318 S. LaGrange Rd., Orland Park. Arrangements are entrusted to the Janusz Family Funeral Service.
