David Herman Vance, 79, passed away Thursday, September 1, after a short but devastating illness. He was surrounded by family in his last days.
He was born to Forrest “Dazzy” and Mary (Strouss) Vance on September 12, 1942. After spending his early years in Earlville, IL, he moved to Aurora, IL and married Linda (Riva) Clements. They have three daughters who were by his side until the end.
Many people knew David as the longtime owner of Northgate Barber Associates, where he cut hair and put his bachelor’s degree in English from Aurora University to use by telling entertaining stories. If you knew David, you also have heard stories about everyone else he knew. David was an integral part of Aurora Area Girls Softball over the years as a dad, coach, umpire, team sponsor, and league president. He was an avid reader and duck decoy collector, and he was a fan of the Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, Chicago Sky, and any team that beat the Cubs. His best memories were of the countless hunting and fishing trips with his buddies. Some would say he could be gruff at times, but his heart was always full of love and loyalty for his family and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Mary; his stepfather, Edward Beard; his son-in-law, Fred Stonehouse; and his longtime life partner, Brenda Burton.
He is survived by his three daughters: Kristin Stonehouse, Kerrin (Joe Opp) Vance, and Kallin Vance; ex-wife and friend, Linda (Wayne) Clements; grandchildren, Andrew and Brittany Stonehouse and Josh and Sophie Opp. He is also survived by Brenda’s children and grandchildren, whom he considered his own family: children, Samantha Burton, Dana (Brian) Wofford, and Jerry (Toni) Burton; grandchildren, Desi Burton, Jackie Stilson, Justice and Brian Wofford, Dominik and Gage Burton, Michael Monkemier; and great grandson, Jon Woods.
