Gun Fired During McDonough Street Argument: Cops

JOLIET, IL — A 36-year-old Joliet man who lives on Iowa Avenue is now in Will County’s Jail after Joliet police say he fired a gun during an argument Saturday night in the 600 block of McDonough Street.

Minutes later, Joliet police pulled over Deontae Campbell’s car near Water and McDonough Streets. Campbell was taken away in handcuffs, charged with reckless discharge of a gun, obstructing a peace officer, two counts of aggravated assault and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Joliet’s officers were sent to the 600 block of McDonough around 7:30 p.m. after learning someone had a gun inside a residence.

“During the argument, Campbell retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and pointed the weapon at a male and female while verbally threatening them,” police spokesman Dwayne English announced. “Campbell then discharged a single round into the air and then fled from the scene in a vehicle at a high rate of speed as officers arrived.”

Following the traffic stop, just over the McDonough Street Bridge, Campbell was arrested without any issues, police said.

Inside Campbell’s car, officers confiscated a .40 caliber magazine and live ammunition, according to police. Officers then recovered a .40 caliber handgun on the roadway nearby in the westbound lane of McDonough Street.

Campbell was booked into county detention at 12:11 a.m. on Sunday.
