GALESBURG — Former American Idol star Haley Reinhart took to the Orpheum Theatre stage Tuesday night.
She sang a variety of original and cover songs, including some from her 2019 album “Lo-Fi Soul” to the Galesburg audience of about 300 spectators.
Orpheum Technical Director Ross McIntire said Reinhart sang her hit song “Deep Water,” as well as her jazzy version of “Can’t Help Falling in Love With You,” the Elvis Presley song, her version of which is featured in the new film “Elvis,” starring Austin Butler and Tom Hanks. For her cover of the Elvis classic, she received a platinum plaque from the RIAA and generated over 150 million Spotify streams and 70 million YouTube views within three years of its release.
Other notable cover songs during her 90-minute set Tuesday night were “Wind Cries Mary,” by Jimi Hendrix and “I put a Spell on You,” by Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, also made popular by Credence Clearwater Revival. For her encore, Reinhart sang “Foxy Lady,” by Hendrix, “Creep,” by Radiohead and her original “Shook.”
Reinhart was backed by Balam Garcia on guitar, Adam Ditt on bass guitar, Matt Little on keyboard and Sheldon Reed on drums.
McIntire said Reinhart mentioned the history of the Orpheum Theatre several times. Built in 1916, the theatre has featured such artists as Jack Benny, George Burns, Houdini, Al Jolson and the Marx Brothers.
Along with 2019’s “Lo-Fi Soul,” she has three solo albums: “Listen Up!” (2012), “Better”(2016), and “What’s That Sound?” (2017).
Originally from Wheeling, Illinois, Reinhart first rose to prominence after placing third in the 10th season of American Idol. Reinhart garnered widespread recognition in 2015 for performing and touring with Scott Bradlee’s Postmodern Jukebox. Reinhart is a series regular on Netflix’s “F is for Family” and starred in the film “We Can Be Heroes.”
Reinhart performed the four previous nights in Minneapolis; Aurora, Illinois; Omaha; and Marion, Illinois, before reaching the stage in Galesburg Tuesday. On Thursday she performs at the Englert Theatre in Iowa City.
