ODESSA, TX – John “Jack” Lawrence Sorbers
Odessa. Jack Sorbers, age 70, passed from this life at Odessa Regional Medicare Center on Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 6:33pm.
Jack was born on September 8, 1951 to John L. and Betty Jane Sorbers in Chicago, Illinois. He entered into the Army September 26, 1968 and became a field radio mechanic. He was honorably discharged on September 3, 1971. After his discharge, he returned to Chicago for some time off. He was later hired with a moving company. His father had taught him carpentry and Jack decided to leave the moving company and go to work doing carpentry work. In November 1978, he went to Houston to visit friends for Thanksgiving. He liked the weather so much he returned to Chicago, he put his house up for sale and returned to Houston.
Jack met Julie Melling in the spring of 1990. On June 15 of 1991 they were married and he became a husband and a stepfather to 4 children, all of whom he loved dearly. Jack was very patriotic and loved our country dearly. His passions in life were the love of his family, golf, fishing and watching football, baseball and hockey.
In September of 2013, he retired and he moved to Odessa to take care of Julie’s father.
Jack was preceded in death by his father John L. Sorbers, his grandparents Lawrence and Agnes Leechan, Sebastian and Augusta Oberding and brother in law, Gary Hargrave. He is survived by his mother, Betty Jane Frank of Huntley, IL, his wife, Julia L Sorbers of Odessa, TX, step daughters, Christie Dyer of Mesa, AZ, Karen Caster of Magnolia, TX, Allison Melling of St George, UT, son Michael Bregar of Ft Worth, TX, brothers Mike Sorbers of Crystal Lake, IL, Bradley Sorbers of Atlanta GA, sister Wendy Hargrave of Elgin, TX, father in law Forest H Mathews of Odessa, TX and brother and sister in law Mark and Celia Ray of Temple, TX. Jack had 7 nieces, 3 nephews and 8 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held March 5, 2022 at 10:00AM at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Pastor James McClary.
