The Kane County Sheriff’s Office is noting an increase in fleeing and eluding situations when people are pulled over for traffic violations.
The sheriff’s office says there were 21 cases of someone fleeing a deputy in 2019. There were 46 in 2020 and 43 in 2021. Sheriff Ron Hain says that he’s instituted additional driving training for deputies as a result.
Two people were arrested after allegedly fleeing from traffic stops on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
24-year-old Brandon C. West, of Carpentersville, was arrested Friday following a chase in Hampshire Township and charged with fleeing and eluding and several violations.
On Saturday, Kane County deputies arrested 24-year-old Christian Turner, of Rockford, after a chase from Elgin to Pingree Grove that ended in a crash. Turner is charged fleeing and eluding, possession of a firearm while on parole, and other charges. Police say the vehicle Turner was driving was reported stolen from Chicago.
