HAMPSHIRE – Karen Diane Rolston, 80, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 6, 2022, at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin. She was born Aug. 30, 1942, in Aurora, the daughter of Harry and Violet Johnson. Karen grew up in Elburn and was a 1960 graduate of Kaneland High School. Karen was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Lily Lake where she was baptized, confirmed and then married her high school sweetheart, Ned Rolston on Aug. 4, 1962. Ned and Karen farmed together in Genoa where they welcomed son, Lindsey and daughter, Shannon. In 1984 they built their forever home on the family farm in Hampshire. Karen enjoyed collecting, decorating, and going antiquing with her sister, Vicki. She enjoyed many family vacations to Gatlinburg, TN during the summer growing season while the kids were young. More recent years were enjoyed by many warm wonderful trips to Bonita Springs, Florida. She loved the ocean and all the warm beauty of the beach. Anyone who knew Karen was aware that her world revolved around her children and her grandchildren, baking her special recipes of spritz cookies and Texas sheet cake were always their favorites. Their happiness, safety and experiences were her greatest joy. Her gentle, patient, loving nature made an impact on all she touched. She is survived by her son, Dr. Lindsey Ryan Rolston (fiancee, Lindsay Nicole Smith); and daughter, Shannon Leigh (Scott) Dalby; grandchildren, Korey Richard (Darian) Ryan, Yanah Sophia Rolston, Drew Rolston Dalby, Allie Karen Dalby, Brylee Madelynn Davis; one great-grandchild on the way; sister, Vicki (Larry) Linden; sister-in-law, Rita (Rolston) Carls; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Ned on Oct. 9, 2016. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17, at 1 PM at Grace Lutheran Church, 5N600 Hanson Road, Lily Lake. Luncheon will follow at the church. Visitation will be prior to services from 11-1 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Karen’s name may be directed to Burlington/ Hampshire Food Pantry or the American Cancer Society. The Fredrick Funeral Home in Huntley is assisting the family.
