Claude L. Kern, 82, of Naperville, Illinois, formerly of Oak Park, Illinois and Phoenix, Arizona, passed away at home on March 9. Beloved husband of Patricia Kern (Posselt) for over 52 years; devoted father to Adrienne Kern McClintock and Andy Kern, dearest grandfather to Lojen McClintock; brother-in-law of Gayle Posselt Lathrop; brother of Andrea (Brea) Kern and Anita (Henchoz) Kern of Switzerland; and many other relatives in Switzerland, Argentina, and the U.S. Claude was born in Lausanne, Switzerland on November 12, 1939. His schooling and apprenticeship training was in various countries in Europe. He is a graduate of Governors State University in Illinois. Claude left Switzerland and was employed in Bermuda before coming to the U.S. His professional employment includes various positions in the Chicago area and Phoenix, Arizona. Claude was founder of the Culinary Arts program at Joliet Junior College in Illinois and became the Associate Dean of Hospitality. Other positions include Director of Training and Development for Marriott Corporation, and Vice President of Quality Assurance for Greyhound Food Management Corporation. Claude retired as Director of Guest Services for the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority (McCormick Place and Navy Pier) in Chicago. He is also a member of the American Academy of Chefs. Claude has been laid to rest at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.
