Smithton, Illinois – Lawrence Eugene Germann, 85, of Smithton, Illinois, born, September 23, 1936, in Belleville, Illinois, passed away, December 19, 2021 in Geneva, Illinois.
Lawrence (Larry) was a compassionate and devoted husband, father, grandson, and son. He was raised in Belleville, Illinois where he grew up enjoying sledding, playing ping pong and tennis. Larry was raised with a special bond and closeness to his grandmother, who along with his parents influenced him in his path of faith and love for Jesus. At Fischer’s Restaurant in Belleville is where he met the love of his life, Marilyn Jean nee Daly. The two fell in love and were married on September 2, 1961 and were together for 56 years. To this beautiful union brought three children: Larry, Randall, and Michelle.
In 1954, Larry graduated from Cathedral High School in Belleville and proceeded to earn a bachelor’s degree in 1958 at Washington University in St. Louis. At “WashU”, he was an active member in the prestigious Kappa Alpha Order.
Larry worked hard through the years to support his family. He started his career with the railroad, served as a pharmaceutical salesman for SmithKline (now GlaxoSmithKline), and retired from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). He taught his children to not give up even in hard times because good times do follow. He was very proud of his country, Veteran service, and his American Legion membership. He grew to love bicycling in his later years and knew each of the bike paths in Southern Illinois. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He will truly be missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife; Marilyn (nee Daly) and parents; Lawrence and Sue (nee Ott) Germann.
Surviving him are his children; Larry (Jeanette) Germann, of Yukon, OK, Randall (Amy) Germann, of Rogers, AR, and Michelle (Daniel) Isacson, of South Elgin, IL, his grandchildren; Dennis (Lilly) Germann, Christopher (McKenzie) Germann, Gregory (Kellina) Germann, Conor Germann, Kylie Germann and Madelyn Isacson; his great-grandchildren, Payton, and Eloise Germann; and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.Memorials are appreciated to the Memorial Mass at St John the Baptist Catholic Church, in Smithton, IL or the American Legion at www.mylegion.org Additional memories and condolences may be shared online at www.lakeviewfuneralhm.com
