Major Crash In Joliet: I-80 Exit Closed, South Chicago St. Shut Down

JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced on Thursday night that a major crash has caused police to close Route 53, which is South Chicago Street. The crash happened around 6:35 p.m. at Patterson Road and South Chicago Street.

Because of the wreck, Joliet police have closed South Chicago Street all the way from Fifth Avenue to Doris Avenue, police announced on Facebook.

Also, the Interstate 80 ramp for South Chicago Street has been shut down as well, police said.

Joliet’s Bob Hernandez got to the scene first to announce details of the crash as he produced one of his Facebook Live videos.

Hernandez said that someone told him at least one person was seriously injured.

Joliet Patch has left a message seeking comment from Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey regarding any injuries. This story will be updated once more details are known.
