Man Dies After Fleeing Crash, Crashing Again Near Sleepy Hollow: Cops

KANE COUNTY, IL — A man involved in a hit-and-run traffic crash, who fled the crash scene only to crash his vehicle again a short time later, has died, authorities said.

Police were originally called to the scene of the hit-and-run traffic crash Saturday afternoon at Route 31 and Boncosky Road in Sleepy Hollow, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff’s Office. A Cadillac Escalade involved in the collision fled the area, driving west on Boncosky Road at a high rate of speed, police said.

The driver did not stop at the intersection of Sleepy Hollow and Boncsoky roads before hitting a tree and large berm at about 4:35 p.m., according to authorities.

The driver, Martin Contreras, 58, of Elgin, was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. There was no one else inside the car at the time of the crash.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
