Mary is survived by her loving children, Walter Donald (Kimberly Sue) Jenkins of Benton Harbor, MI, Cynthia Ann (the late Rick) Wills of Naperville, IL, Nancy Ruth (Terrance) King of Villa Park, IL and Patricia Kay (Robert) Todd of Naperville, IL; her cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Jenkins, Andrew Jenkins, Natalie Jenkins, Audy Higgins, Lakota (Mike) Pagnotta, Alexandra (Megan) Wills, Adam Wills, Eric Todd, Evan Todd and Marissa Todd. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 63 years, Walter Jenkins; her parents, Albert and Elsie Erler. Mary was born in New Jersey and graduated from Miss Baird’s School for Girls. She attended two years of business school before taking a job as a secretary at BBD&O advertising agency in Manhattan. She met her husband Walter while he was stationed at Ft. Monmouth in New Jersey. Walter’s job took the couple to many different locations. They were married in 1953 and moved to Lockport, NY where their first child Don was born. Cindy and Nancy were born in Lemon Grove, CA. After moving to Tuscola, IL Pat arrived. Following a few more moves they settled in Naperville in 1969. Mary thought it was time to put down permanent roots. The couple became active members of Knox Presbyterian Church where Mary was a deacon and a frequent volunteer. At Knox they made many lasting friends including a dinner group with whom they also traveled and had lots of fun! Once all her children were older, Mary rejoined the workforce in several retail and service positions. She particularly enjoyed retail sales including Jan’s Gift House, Lord & Taylor and Talbots. Mary was a loving and devoted “Nonnie”. Her happiest times were shopping with her grandchildren and spoiling them rotten. Mary and Walt enjoyed traveling and exploring many places including 49 states and several international destinations. For those who would like to make a lasting tribute to Mary’s life, memorials to Knox Presbyterian Church, 1105 Catalpa Lane, Naperville, IL 60540 would be greatly appreciated.
