I recently had a chance to speak with a singer named Amanda Lyberg from a band called Eva Under Fire. Her fans affectionately know her as “Eva,” and she has a story that I think needs to be heard.

Before she became “Eva,” Amanda grew up in a household with two parents addicted to heroin. Her parents were always supportive, though, and introduced her to the world of hard rock music early in life. Named after the Boston song that bears her name, Amanda found solace inside the music. After being asked to sing for a friend’s band and winning a Battle of the Bands competition, she gained the confidence to pursue a life in music. She eventually started Eva Under Fire, got signed by a record label, and assumed her role as “Eva.”

Amanda’s mother eventually found a road to recovery, but her father was not as fortunate. He was lost to an overdose. Amanda expressed her emotions through her music and wrote a song from the very depths of her soul called “Heroin(e)”.

With lyrics like “I can’t save you, I can’t change you now, Save your own skin, I’m not your heroine,” it is a moving testament from someone that is loving yet powerless.

Amanda Lyberg is not only “Eva,” the powerhouse singer for Eva Under Fire, but she is also a clinical psychologist. Her accomplishments are astounding and inspiring. Regardless of the obstacles and heartbreak, she had the tenacity and strength to make a positive life for herself. She has taken a dark tale and given it a lustrous beacon of positive light to perhaps illuminate a path for others to follow and find peace.
