ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – The Veteran’s Drop-in Center gave away refurbished computers for free or at a reduced cost thanks for the help from PC’s For People.
To be eligible, a person had to receive either SNAP benefits, be on Medicaid, Veteran’s Pension Benefit Program or have a household income less than 135 percent of the federal poverty guidelines. Executive Director Eric Willard says 20 people had signed up as of Thursday.
Overnight, an additional 44 people signed up meaning the drop-in center ran out of computers. Willard says, “They had first suggested bringing out 100 computers, and I said we didn’t have the capacity or the space for that, so bring out 50 and we’ll see how it goes. Well, you’ve seen how it goes! We have a lot more than 50 people here so they’re going to deliver more computers now for those who are here. We’ll likely run another one of these in the near future.”
The center is also offering computer training courses for veterans free of charge.
